Healthy Living Recipes : Homemade Hummus

September 9, 2013

My Mom and I love making hummus together, so I am really excited to share her recipe on the blog today. We started making our own when we realized how many preservatives and sodium was in the pre made packages, and we haven’t looked back ever since. Also, instead of chips, we substitute these crackers on the side, they have a lot of fiber, and are good for you!

First, cook your chick peas(GOYA) and drain them but keep about one cup of the juice they were cooked in. Next you want the juice of two lemons, and your crushed garlic cloves in a big mixer. Mix olive oil, lemon juice and garlic together until you get a good consistency then add your chick peas in.

You’ll know when it’s ready because the smoothness is easy to see. There should be no chunks whatsoever!

Lastly, you need to find an awesome serving bowl & plate set. Uncommon Goods is working with me this month, and I picked out this awesome set from their website. I really love how versatile this piece is and how well it works with any dip. The curvature of the bowl is made for the perfect dip without spilling any of the hummus or salsa off the chip. It’s pretty brilliant if you ask me. It gives you the perfect scoop every time. If you like really cool and different gifts you should check their website out, there are plenty of unique things to pick from for anyone in your family, or your friends!

This sounds really good! I made similar hummus the other day, but I added garlic stuffed olives to the recipe! It's great for dipping pita and vegetables.

I'm Lebanese, so we eat hummus ALL the time. I love making it from scratch! It's so easy and quick and makes the perfect snack on the go. Your recipe is almost identical to mine, and I have to say, it's the best!Emmafreethesparrow.blogspot.com

Love this recipe! First I need to get a mixer, but then I'm going to try this. I recently looked at the ingredients in store bought hummus, too, and thought that it should be a lot more natural. Thanks for sharing!
