Hey everyone! I am so excited today to be teaming up with Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company to talk about traveling with your jewelry, and keeping it safe this holiday season. The last time I traveled with my jewelry was on our honeymoon, and I remember just getting used to the fact that I had now a wedding, and engagement ring on. If it’s one thing I love, it’s quality pieces that last a lifetime. I own a few items that I really love, and I don’t want to travel without, so these things are must haves for me. I’ve put together some tips for you guys to keep your jewelry safe this season, and to enjoy your trip without worrying about losing your most beloved items.
- 1. Make sure your jewelry is insured, especially if they are expensive pieces like a wedding ring, diamond earrings, etc. You don’t want to skimp on buying insurance for your items because this is the only way you’re guaranteed anything if your items go missing. Jewelers Mutual has been exclusively insuring jewelry for more than 100 years and offers repair or replacement coverage that includes worldwide travel protection for all types of jewelry and watches. Coverage includes loss, theft, damage and mysterious disappearance (unexplained loss). You want to make sure you do this prior to leaving to ensure you’re all ready to go! No matter how careful we are with our jewelry when traveling, accidents happen. That’s why there’s jewelery insurance.
- 2. Do NOT put your expensive jewelry in your checked baggage. I repeat, DO NOT put your expensive jewelry in your checked baggage! In the instance that your bags go missing, so do your valuables, and you don’t want this to happen. Ryan lost his luggage on our first trip to Cyprus, and he never got it back, he’s still upset about it to this day, so don’t think it can’t happen to you! Make sure that you put your jewelry in your carry on bags, or wear it through security so you have it on you at all times.
- 3. Call your hotel before hand and make sure they offer a safe inside the hotel room so you can store your items. This is extremely important, especially when traveling with expensive things such as laptops, cameras, jewelry and purses. We used our safe multiple times on our trip to Aruba, and it was a lifesaver for us! If your hotel does not have a safe, then I suggest wearing the items so you don’t have them laying around. The worst thing you can do is leave the items in the hotel, and risk them being wrapped up in the sheets taken by the staff or have them misplaced completely.
So if you’re traveling this holiday season, make sure you keep all of these things in mind! I hope these tips help you when planning to bring your most exquisite jewels with you on your next adventure!
